Settling In

Friday, September 7th 2012

Today I moved into the house that will be my home for the next month.  It’s really cute. It’s a two bedroom bungalow with two bathrooms, a living room, kitchen and dining room. There’s even a fireplace!

Ethiopia will enter a new year on Tuesday, September 11th. It will be 2005! This is like time travel. Where was I seven years ago and what is one thing I would change…..

Dr. M. has invited me to her father’s house to celebrate. I’m looking forward to being in a celebratory setting with family and of course, food! Until Tuesday I plan to occupy myself by reading some project background documents, reading my Amharic book, and walking around the neighborhood. I’m kind of a wimp when it comes to venturing about by myself in new places but I do it anyway. Finding internet is motivation. As for Amharic, I need to learn it yesterday! Here’s what I’m starting with:

Seulam- Hello

Deunaneush?- How are you (female)

Deunaneuh-how are you? (male)

Ameuseugenalo- Thank you

It’s not much but ‘thank you’ alone is six syllables!
