Bombings in Kampala

This morning Rita and I heard the shocking news on tv that there were bombings last night in Kampala, Uganda.  Apparently, the group suspected to be responsible is Al-Shabbab, a Somali Islamic group who has been fighting the western-supported government for the last 3 years, since 2007.

It is said that the bombings occurred following threats uttered sometime back that the group would attack Uganda becuase of the troops fighting in Somalia as part of the African union peace-keepers.  At least 64 people died.

Imagine, the bombings took place at two bars where hundreds of people had gathered to watch the World Cup Finals, a tournament that had just been credited for bringing Africa together in support and celebration.
